Levite 2018-2022
Matt Teitelman, a Jewish Educator at the Rodeph Sholom School in New York City, first encountered Nava Tehila at a transitional time in his life. Though he didn't know it at the time, he would be wrapping up his music career as a drummer and percussionist and beginning a rewarding career as a full-time Day School teacher.
His educational foundation began with a Bachelor of Music from Rutgers University, which led to over a decade performing and recording as a drummer and percussionist, during which time he performed on a Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling album and taught drums and percussion to children of all ages.
From 2018 to 2022, while living in Jerusalem, Matt deepened his Jewish connection as part of the Levite circle at Nava Tehila, where he discovered the profound spiritual power inherent in Jewish ritual, prayer, and communal music-making. He holds a Master of Jewish Education from Hebrew College and studied Torah and Talmud at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem.
This unique combination of Jewish educational training and musical expertise allows him to bring creativity, warmth, and depth to his teaching approach. Today, Matt lives and works in New York City, where he teaches at Rodeph Sholom School and helps lead musical services for the Aviv minyan at B'nei Jeshurun. Outside the classroom and sanctuary, Matt enjoys making music with friends and spending quality time with his two children.
