Kohenet Annie Matan is the first ordained Kohenet Hebrew Priestess in Canada. In relationship with Goddess/xx for nearly two decades, she facilitates sacred experiences, through song, ceramic art, and ritual, that remember Her and call people back to themselves. She officiates weddings and life cycle rituals, and in 2014 founded Matanot Lilith, a queer, interfaith-affirming spiritual community.
Through study circles, songs, and Red Tents, informed by the question “what would Lilith do?”, Matanot Lilith bridges ancestral practice with feminist values and contemporary identities — a tender place to refill our cups in community and connection.
Ordained in 2009, Annie studied at the Pardes Center for Jewish Studies in Jerusalem (2009–2010, 2012–2013) and holds a degree in Jewish Studies from York University (2012). She has been an educator with the Jewish Learning Collaborative since 2023.
Annie is queer and polyamorous, and lives in Toronto with her daughter Grace. You can find them elbow-deep in art supplies together, and always chasing the next show with a little magic in it.
